Dear CETAF Directors, Dear CETAF Representatives, Dear Colleagues,

At the upcoming meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia, on the 14th and 15th November, CETAF will be bringing taxonomy back onto its agenda, and back into focus. We will hold a workshop on taxonomy within CETAF to begin to shape our vision and ambitions for the future, and as a central contribution to the CETAF Joint Research Agenda for Biodiversity and Geodiversity sciences that we are in the process of developing as a community.

CETAF has been invited to contribute to the Global Taxonomy Initiative Forum (https://www.cbd.int/gti) that will be held in Egypt on the 16th November 2018, just before the COP14. As the GTI Forum is concurrent with the CETAF Governing Board meeting and post meeting activities in Bratislava, Hendrick Segers (RBINS, and the Belgian GTI National Focal point) has kindly agreed to represent CETAF, in the Forum where he will present on the importance of natural history collections, and their associated scientists, in underpinning CBD implementation.

To support CETAF’s vested interest in taxonomy remaining on the agenda post-2020, and to encourage closer collaborations with the GTI of the CBD in the future, the CETAF Bratislava Declaration has been prepared by Chris Lyal (NHM London, and the UK GTI National Focal point) and the CETAF Executive Committee (see pdf version below).

To facilitate the finalisation of this document for the 15th November (where upon it will be transmitted to the CBD GTI coordinator), please indicate:

A: whether you would like to be removed from the list of signatories

B: whether you approve the document and would like to remain a signatory to the declaration

To expediate the process, a lack of response to this email will be interpreted as option 2 (B - approval and signing of the document by your institution).

I thank you in advance for your support of this initiative, and I look forward to seeing you next week in Bratislava.

Cordially,
Michelle
