This time there will be two presentations: LUCA VOSS (MFN, BERLIN): Good field labels save time and sanity The importance of good field labels cannot be understated. They link the specimen with the collection event data. If the information on the field labels is lost due to wrong materials used or the collector not proving the necessary data afterwards the value of the specimen for scientific purposes is greatly reduced. To circumvent these pitfalls the talk will give examples of materials to use from pencils to strings. But will also explore which information is the most useful on a field label from the viewpoint of long term storage. ANNIKA HENDRIKSEN (NATURALIS, LEIDEN): Research expeditions in wikidata Many specimens and other collection objects are related to scientific expeditions, both recent and historical. By linking the data from these expeditions to the specimens with stable identifiers, we can not only form a better picture of the provenance of these objects, but also link them to other object types such as archival material and images. Above all, we can link specimens and objects across different types of collections (natural history, ethnographic etc.) in separate institutions. An international working group, now a TDWG task group [1], is concerned with modeling this data, the use of Wikidata as a community curated vocabulary and the integration of PIDs in collection registration systems, to open up collection data related to expeditions. Following the presentation, there will of course be time for questions. This is the ZOOM LINK TO ACCESS THE SESSION [2]. As always, colleagues are welcome to join the session; PLEASE FORWARD THIS MAIL WITHIN YOUR CETAF WORKING GROUP and to anyone who might be interested. Apologies for any cross posting. Hoping many of you join the session! With kind regards on behalf of the CETAF Collections Group. Hoping many of you join the session!
