Hi, The experience and routines I have at NHM Oslo when working with radioactive minerals is like this: - Have a Geiger and measure the level of radioactivity - Know what the type of the emitted radiation (which radionuclides), then you`ll know what to be careful about, but if you do not know, then: - Always have gloves on - Check if the samples are prone to dust. The alpha particles like to travel with the dust and they are the worst to get inside the body. In this case , wear a FFP3 mask. - The working distance should be at least 30 cm if possible -When moving the samples around, is good to transport them enclosed, but be careful when you open the container again (radon is created and you don`t want to inhale it) Otherwise, ja, if is just for taking picture and not your constant working task, it will be fine. I’m wondering if our ESG group could help them by sharing your experience. Thanks! Since you hold significant geological collections, my question to you is: - do you have experience in the digitization of radioactive specimens? - if so, are you using specific procedures/ safety measures / ...? Many thanks in advance! Kind regards, Maarten -- <http://www.plantentuinmeise.be> To unsubscribe from this list please go to http://www.simplelists.com/confirm/?u=DXcRiQHICHMrPXD2htkoYyvRBhpumCJD
