Thanks for doing that it coming along and looks pretty good. As one of the few Mineralogy Curators in the team I do have some comments though...

(1) Firstly, my name is spelt Rachel 🙂

(2) Pages 2-4    I don't think Mineralogy should be placed as a subset of Geology when it comes to specimens. The collection is so different being identified and classified using chemistry and crystal structure. ie really, really different from biological specimens. I therefore suggest the following categories

Ma
Main Category

Paleontology

Geology
        Sedimentology    (I presume thats what you mean by 'loose sediment')
        Igneous Petrology
        Metamorphic Petrology   mylonites other deformed rocks
        Structural Geology
        Hydrocarbon
Mineralogy
        Crystallography
        Gemmology
Extraterrestrial        Meteorites
        Impactites
        Sample  Return specimens

(4) Page 5 Examples of Storage types

I would separate out radioactive specimens from asbestos form as the storage needs are so different.

Geology: Oversized specimens
: Macro-objects
: Microscope slides
: Cores
: fluids

Mineralogy : Macrospecimens
: Microsamples
: radioactive specimens
: boxed (asbesto-form) specimens
: cut/ polished Gemstones

(4) Page 6  Required minimum metadata for the discoverability of collections
Chemistry     needs to feature at the same level as Time (Chronostratigraphy)  as they are almost mutually exclusive.

Chronostratigraphy is important for Palaeontology and one subbranch of Geology (sedimentology) but not at all for most other collections.
Time (as in specimen age) is a valuable variable for a number of specimens (Geology (volcanic rocks (eruptions), igneous petrology), Mineralogy, and Extraterrestrial specimens (meteorites, impactites))

Chemistry is important for all branches of Mineralogy, Extraterrestrial geology and can be important to Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology.

Both time (chronostratigraphy/age) AND Chemistry is important 🙂
